Wardrobe Wednesday - on the flip side

Every Wednesday, Every Wardrobe Welcome.

Mostly I like to wear dresses or be dressed up. But there are days when I need to feel casual. Last week I had some performances with this exciting new theatre collective and the day of the first performance felt a bit like ball/prom day. On these occasions I know I will be dressed up and 'in character' so I kind of have the need to dress right down and be in the moment before I dress up. I'm not sure if this makes sense to anyone else at all so if you are scratching your head read it as an individual quirk!!

I've said before that I don't have decent jeans - I call these my 'husband jeans' you know like boyfriend jeans but the kind even your husband has given up on (not that he would have worn them in the first place!!).

For me the redeeming feature of this ensemble is the talking point embellishment.

People that know me often comment when I dress this way, surprised by an outfit that isn't really me but every now and again I need to feel a certain connection with the moment and the place in which I stand and this sort of look helps, however weird that seems. (Conversely usually strangers comment on the way I dress on my usual ensembles).

If you want to see a typical me outfit tune in tomorrow and see my December dress which I've made out of a 1950s net curtain (as you do!).

Do you ever feel the need to dress in a way that is completely different to your usual? Why?

Outfit:
Jeans - hand me down (perhaps they should have been a chuck out??)
Top - Zara UK 7 years old
Cardi - op shop Melbourne
Shoes - Op-shop
short necklace - self made
Long Necklace - birthday gift from an NGO in Cambodia
Bracelet - birthday gift - measuring tape

So what is Wardrobe Wednesday?
  • It's a chance to take some time once a week to peel off the polar fleece trackies (I have a pair too!!) and put on something that gives you a chance to have a 'play' in your wardrobe, to make yourself feel pretty/ stylish/ like a woman!
  •  It's a time to celebrate and hopefully to embrace your body however you find it - post baby, young or old your body is lovely and functional and precious and I want this place to be a place for you to see other women (ordinary, beautiful women) who don't live in designer homes on designer budgets with designer bodies.
How to play?
1. Link in your specific blog post not just your general blog
2. Link to a post about clothes - that's what we're here for
3. Please add a link back here so other people can come over and see people's clothing posts too - the old fashioned way or grab a button
4. Be encouraging and visit people - leave a comment now and again too everyone loves to get encouragement

Here's the button copy and paste away

Has anyone else started to think about their Christmas Day outfit??

Loooove your talking point necklace :) I always think it's amazing how much difference a piece of jewellery or a scarf can make to a simple outfit!
How'd your performance go??

I agree about needing to be casual - today I'm working from home and have no meetings and no reason to leave the house (other than the kindy run) - it's nice just to be comforable.

I love that your quirky necklaces still make this outfit you though - and the long one feels so festive too.

I definitaly feel like this sometimes. I tend to dress up too, but somedays you really want to feel a bit casual. Especially I find when I have had a lot of events or client meetings that week.

Sorry for the lack of linking, Haven't had a outfit post recently, but I have started up a new link party My Style Sunday if you would like to come visit.

Totally get the whole dressing down before/ after dressing up!
... and may I say that your performance was great and that you looked amazing!!! If you do something like that again, I'm definitely going to try and drag my hubby along too. Was lovely to see you this afternoon.

Interesting question... when I dress for work, it's mostly about practicality and what I'm going to be doing that day (which translates into what SHOES am I going to wear that day and work from there). But there's still an element of how I feel on any given day, like do I feel feminine, or no-nonsense, exhausted (!) or whatever.

The necklace is great and I love your pants!! I dress completely not like me asll the time I go to work. It has to be comfortable there but also practical just like Jen. I try to have unless one part that is just me :-)

Thanks for hosting! I love those jeans, they look good on you and yet they look like they would be comfy too! ;)
Since everything in my closet is 'me' I guess I always dress like me. ;)

I love the jeans! The wash and the cut! Send them to me before you toss! I will lose weight to wear them! Gosh, are there enough exclamation points?!?!

I get what you mean. I think everyone needs a break from the upkeep of their usual style every once in awhile, whatever the reason. :)
