Wardrobe Wednesday - Pattern on Pattern - Do or Don't?

Every Wednesday,  Every Body, Every Wardrobe Welcome

It was lovely to meet some new wardrobes and their owners last week and to see familiar faces.
This week I am being very daring for me. I know for many people the way I dress day to day would feel very 'out there' for them and when you peg me up next to others I would always look conservative. Guess it depends where you are looking!

Today I'm mixing 2 patterns which is a radical move for me. Pulling out the pinky tones in the skirt and using the shoes to tie them both together is what makes this an okay pattern-on-pattern mix for me.

Do you ever mix pattern on pattern?

Also introducing my littlest model - who happens to be totally up-staging me- just sayin!

Skirt - gift/hand me down from my sister.
Top - handmade this year from Japanese Lawn and an awful 80s op-shop pattern
Shoes- TKMaxx UK cheap and uncomfortable!
Cardi - Glassons
Bracelet - my grandmothers
Necklace - from a small shop in Heathcote Valley - an area badly effected by earthquakes last year. Not sure if it is still there.

So what is Wardrobe Wednesday?
  • It's a chance to take some time once a week to peel off the polar fleece trackies and put on something that gives you a chance to have a 'play' in your wardrobe, to make yourself feel worth dressing up for.
  •  It's a time to celebrate and hopefully to embrace your body however you find it - post baby, young or old your body is lovely and functional and precious and I want this place to be a place for you to see other women (ordinary, beautiful women) who don't live in designer homes on designer budgets with designer bodies.
How to play?
1. Link in your specific blog post not just your general blog
2. Link to a post about clothes - that's what we're here for
3. Please add a link back here so other people can come over and see people's clothing posts too - the old fashioned way or grab a button
4. Be encouraging and visit people - leave a comment now and again too everyone loves to get encouragement

Here's the button copy and paste away

What a clever outfit. I would not have thought to combine the check and flowers, but they look great together. The skirt looks like it might be made of silk?

You can totally mix the two.. especially floral with plaids/stripes/dots.... love the colours.... and your very cute plaid shirt model! ")

Thanks - I think he might just steal the show! :o) (although he's got some competition from a certain orange lover!)

I think the skirt is silk - I love the colours in it

Thanks so much. I think the colours have to work together in harmony - that's my philosophy!

I think is much about fashion is daring to do something different. I love that you have stepped out of your comfort zone and as usual you totally pulled it off!
The prize for modelling goes to Bounce though, what a wee sweetie!

Great pics this week, my dear. Yeah - I like to go crazy with patterns now and again - I have a little rule, well guideline about mixing large scale with small, (which you did). Lovely.

Hooooweeee, that second-to-last photo! Model material. I think mixing a big pattern (checked skirt) with a small pattern (Japanese Lawn) is what makes this look work. You are doing such a great job hosting WW, it's awesome round here! I'm looking forward to joining in again when term time begins and we're back in a bit of a 'normal' routine.

Pattern-on-pattern, I say do! Although today I did solid-on-solid colorblocking. ;)

I think you totally pulled it off. The pink is especially cute

I think my comment went through before I finished...

I've never tried mixing patterns but I'm working up to it. I'm guessing the key is to pull colors that match so it looks pull together? Yep, I'll do it. :-)
