B.M.W.B - Snowball Toss
I found this little activity on the web and pinned it to my page 'to do with my boys'
It's a simple concept - get the snowball in the pot.
Of course the number lover liked my little twist where we all added numbers to each cup
He kept playing with it on his own for a number of days afterwards
They loved it..... but I tend to find if it involves my undivided attention most activities appeal.
Becoming the Mama I want to be is about taking time to enjoy the journey of parenting, to honour it's value and to hopefully inspire and encourage each other.
Simple. Achievable. Intentional: becoming the mama I want to be

Autumn
It's getting cold,
in the evening the fire crackles,
breath hangs misty in the mornings and
my hands freeze through my gloves on the bike ride to school
Autumn is here and leaning in to winter
I love autumn
Christchurch is so, so stunning as the seasons turn
these photos are just in the small local park at the end of the street
these are the trees I see daily
marking seasons
reminding me of a God who makes things that are beautiful to behold
there is something so royal and regal about autumn trees - they have a grandeur and weight that no other season carries

If It Makes You Happy
...that's what The Atlas said when I asked him about getting a makeover (a blog makeover that is - if I had asked him about a real makeover I would have expected some protestations, 'you're so perfect already, how could you be improved on'.... you know stuff that husbands should definitely say first, rather than 'about time I noticed you'd really let yourself go')
Truth be told it's one of those things I felt a bit embarrassed about doing..... I mean let's be honest here (as Michael Kors would say) it's not like I have thousands or even hundreds of readers, this isn't a business, I don't make money from this space.... it's just a cosy, messy little spot to indulge my stream ofunconsciousness....
I felt a bit like a 'lady who lunches', some ditzy woman who just loves to spend money on herself only - which I don't think and I sincerely hope isn't true...... having a makeover wasn't ever about making me happy..... it was about creating a space I felt like I owned, a space that looked a bit like me, something to feel proud to invite people over to.
A bit like a mini home.....
I want a home that is unique, that is me and us, that isn't about styles and trends but is about the things we think are lovely and comforting...... I kinda wanted the same from my blog
and I didn't have the skills to make it happen
and to be honest I'm not interested in having the skills.... I mean I could learn them.... and spend hours and hours muttering under my breath and forgetting to make dinner and feeling annoyed at the real people hassling me during this very important job I am doing.....yeah.... I'm going to stick with sharpening the skills I actually have (but that's a whole other blog post)
and I'm also really keen to support another person pursuing their dream. a mama who has skills. a mama who has passion. a mama who loves that weird geeky stuff (at least I hope she does!!)
Simone has done an incredible job of making this space mine and that's what I love about this process. I was a little nervous that I'd end up with something she thought I should have, or something that was generic and pretty and ok, or something loud and brassy and overwhelming (to match my personality)..... but she hasn't. She has searched my blog and picked lovely photos (click on the pages at the top), she has asked me lots of questions and given me options.
I am so thrilled with this new look and, perhaps unusually, I feel proud of it.... isn't that amazing? She's made something that feels so like mine that I feel total ownership of it and I feel like I'm proud to show people round my blog.....

Make My Week - New Look 6805
I believe in the exchange of talents without necessarily the exchange of money. It's something I see quite a lot around the internets and something I have done a bit in my life. A couple of weeks ago I shortened some trousers and made 3 wee boys some polar fleece trackies and received some very good muesli in return (which I kept all for myself and didn't share).
This coming weekend is Crafty Christchurch - a wonderful 2 days of craft suppliers, demos and that sort of thing. To help out the lovely Kirsty I am assisting at The Make Cafe stand on Saturday. By way of return I am swapping my 'talents' (which I hope is talking rather than measuring and cutting accurately!) for some of her 'talents' - gorgeous Echino fabric.
I do love the pattern and although there are a couple of bits that bend my brains I've done a better job this time round. I also included an invisible zip!!!
The New Look 6805 pattern is one I have certainly got my moneys-worth out of. To date I have made view E as a costume, view A (with variations and modifications) 4 times and now view B twice. That's 8 dresses from one pattern I bought for $10.50.
The sash is made from a gorgeous voile suggested by Juliet who happened to be working when I came in to get the fabric.The voile is also in the V of the dress to avoid the 'howdy fellas' of the ladies on show (not that there are likely to be many fellas at crafty Christchurch but I will wear it at other times too!)
I'm hoping that people see it and get inspired to look at the 'quilting/crafting' fabric in a new way. Personally I spend my whole time in the shop thinking of myself parading about in a series of 'lady dresses' in a variety of patterns. Also it was news to me that Kirsty stocks this voile, which is incredibly light and floaty. I'd quite like to try a blouse-y top from it at some point.
I have bravely included the back view which does not do my triceps (or lack thereof) any favours! and don't you love my sock indentations - I am so stylish!
