Make My Week - Disco Chair

Well I have decoupaged another awful chair - this time into a frenzy of disco awesomeness - the before photo is somewhere in-between the old and new computer and frankly it just feels like way.too.much effort to locate it - so you'll just have to believe me!

I think I picked up this fabric from Lincraft (cheap quilting fabric that was almost transparent!)

The seat required re-strapping underneath which required some effort especially as I have no staple gun here.

The disco glitter vinyl is a little thick for my liking but as I am limited to Spotlight and Lincraft in the city - neither of which seem to be specialising in cotton laminate - well, needs must and all that.

I do like the triangles though.

This wee guy wanted to get in on the act so you can see it modelled on a real five year old.

I like it.

I actually have another chair that is ready for a makeover and now that I am armed with an electric sander - oh er! (Which came accompanied with a card from Flip and The Atlas saying we love you so much we bought you a sander - actually Flip wrote it and he included the price in the card to emphasise the real depths of their love. He also commented afterwards, "I think this will be an invaluable gift, don't you?").

Joining in with the fabulous Leonie who this week sent me crocheted bunting for my bike basket (and it arrived the day Ma n Pop left and I was in need of some love), yes she is that lovely.

Make My Week - One Chair to Rule Them All

The dining chairs at our place are about as ugly as dining chairs can be. Nothing retro or redeemable about them and there are only four so we kind of need a couple more. (Remember we might like to have visitors some time!).

I have been searching for a good little wooden chair to make over and not having a lot of luck until my lovely neighbour dropped this unloved beauty outside our door one day.

The fact that I had to buy everything - right down to a sanding block and brushes this wasn't the cheapest makeover but I am so thrilled with the final result.

This is the chair to rule them all - to make the ugly chairs realise how ugly they really are and quake at its beauty.

I used a Kaffe Fasset fabric for the body of the chair and an Amy Butler cotton laminate for the seat. I bought the cotton at a local quilting shop and the cotton laminate from an Australian supplier on etsy.

Totally stoked with this chair, the colours make me really happy and I think the centre and chair work really well together. I'd like to do a couple more decoupoaged chairs so that we can have a few more and the house looks a bit more me.

Make My Week - Road Kill

Recently there was a 'hard waste' time where people could put out their beds, desks, cupboards... that sort of stuff and the council (and other hoaders visionaries) could/would collect at will.

We needed something to keep our modem off the floor and found this piece of delightful road kill.

I bought one roll (that was all they had) of patterned tape from my local Kawaii (Japanese $2.90) Shop.

With the 10m of roll I managed this. The Atlas says he quite likes the extra black showing, I'm not sure.

Still for $2.90 + free road kill, it's doing the job quite nicely.

Make My Week #29 - Come for Tea?

Cup of tea that is!
Last year at Christmas time some of the chch bloggers had a Christmas party and swap.

Delightful Kirsty gave me a wooden tray with a dophin on it and some gorgeous fabric (which is currently on special at her shop in a different colourway) with a challenge for a make-over. Being that 6 or 7 months have passed I imagine she has forgotten entirely about it. I gave it a makeover and here is the result.

Sanded, cleaned, fabric'd, varnished several coats.
Now I just need a friend over for some tea and biscuits - anyone keen?
