Wardrobe Wednesday - Honestly Does My Butt Look Big In This??

Every Wednesday, Every Wardrobe, Every Body Welcome

Hey gorgeous ladies (pretty sure this is a women's only event!)

I hope the Christmas build up is full of fun and a bit of fashion  fabulousness here and there.

This week I've been thinking about the age old 'does my butt look big in this?' question. This outfit was a bit of a random throw together and personally I'm not entirely sure it works - not that it stopped me biking to the school pick up in it.

But then the big question is really how many of us actually, really, truly have someone who will tell it to us straight when we need to ask a straight up question about our choice of ensemble or the fit or lack thereof.

Do you?

My sister is pretty good at telling it straight up - at a clothing swap recently she said to me in a room full of people 'that skirt is doing you no favours' - which is kind of harsh but I appreciate probably half or more of the room were thinking it too. I like that about her - I don't have the same spunk by any stretch - I might say 'I preferred the other one on you' or ' have you thought about a different colour/neckline?....'

I chatted to her about this and she told me she has a clothing feedback policy so have a look in the comments for Naomi and see what it is....

Second question is do you want that person in your life? Are you longing for a straight up, loving assessment of your actual style/fit choices???

Not that I'm offering! I'm just interested how many of us have that person and how many of us would really like to have them.

Outfit Breakdown:
Dress - op shop $8
Belt - dotti $10
Tights - Farmers $11.99
Earrings - handmade by me - free
Shoes - Cotton On $15
Jacket - free- clothing swap

So what is Wardrobe Wednesday?
  • It's a chance to take some time once a week to peel off the polar fleece trackies (I have a pair too!!) and put on something that gives you a chance to have a 'play' in your wardrobe, to make yourself feel pretty/ stylish/ like a woman or at least not slummy!
  •  It's a time to celebrate and hopefully to embrace your body however you find it - post baby, young or old your body is lovely and functional and precious and I want this place to be a place for you to see other women (ordinary, beautiful women) who don't live in designer homes on designer budgets with designer bodies.
How to play?
1. Link in your specific blog post not just your general blog
2. Link to a post about clothes - that's what we're here for
3. Please add a link back here so other people can come over and see people's clothing posts too - the old fashioned way or grab a button
4. Be encouraging and visit people - leave a comment now and again too everyone loves to get encouragement

Here's the button copy and paste away

Have a great week.

  1. I once had a flatmate who was that honest and I loved it. Sometimes I wish that the blogging community would be a bit more constructive, although of course it's always lovely to get lots of positives. It's almost like the absence of praise sometimes feels like a judgement - does anyone else feel like that sometimes?

I think as I get older I've realised, it's hard to find someone to be totally constructive because the only one that truly cares is us. If your butt really does look big in that... shake it and be proud!

    1. Ha ha Kelly I love that last statement. I think I can also wonder about what a silence means. Also I'm very aware that giving constructive criticism on a blog could be mis-construed because you have no tone or body language or context to read it with (and I love praise anyway!!)

  2. So Yes, I am honest but as Miriam said I have a policy which is: 'Always blame the clothes!'. My thinking is that every woman is gorgeous and beautiful and special, and the job of an outfit is to enhance this. This is why I would rather dress with style that follow fashion. And I don't offer unsolicited advice, but all feedback will be honest! :-)

  4. Surprisingly my hubby is my biggest critic. He has no problems giving me negative and positive feedback and I so appreciate it. Although his style isn't quite mine, I trust his judgement. So lucky!

    1. Mine is usually pretty happy to let me wear anything but he voices an opinion (very gently) now and again

  5. My rule of thumb is that if I'm with someone and either of us is trying on something new, it is only right to be politely honest to avoid the purchase of something unflattering, but that if someone's wearing something they've had for ages and obviously feels good in, then it's not my place to say anything. I appreciate people feeling able to tell me that they don't like an item of clothing, because then it is up to me whether or not I take that on board.

And honestly, you look great in this outfit. Your legs look good, and you have the figure for this dress. I will admit that I like it better without the jacket though :)

  7. I think my kids are the most honest people I know. My girls are the go-to peeps for telling me straight up if something doesn't look right! The hubster is so conservative that if I ask him, he gives some funny answers to my quirkiness.

    1. The problem with kids I always think is that in general they are very influenced by what is in or out... or are they quite able to just give feedback without that part??

  8. I agree with Ange! Also, I'm the kind of person that would retreat into a shell and never want to come out, if someone made a negative comment about something I was wearing, and so I make sure I never say anything neg to others about their clothing. I also feel super boosted when someone says I look good, and tend to gauge from what they DON'T say, whether something works or not. My sister and my besties are super great at pointing out what looks good on me, so I often stick to those outfits! I'm not super adventurous, clothing-wise...

    1. I certainly love it when people say nice things about what I wear. although the downside of being adventurous is that people feel they can say quite full on stuff about what you wear from time to time....

  9. Oh gosh, my husband can be way too honest sometimes. About everything. Hair. Clothes. Shoes. I don't ask him anymore. LOL and my kids are pretty honest. It's a good thing I kinda sorta trust their judgement. And that I'm not sensitive.

I love the mustard and stripes together. Adorbs. And that belt is too cute.

    1. There definitely seems to be a breed of husband like that - mine doesn't fall into that category but I do have friends who have that

  10. I don't know if my comment posted....

    *sigh*

Anyway, I said my husband and kids are brutally honest about everything. Seriously, they lack a filter. But I kinda sorta trust their judgement, so....

I do adore the mustard and stripes together, very cute.

  15. I always look forward to your Wardrobe Wednesdays! I do have such a person in my life, and it's my husband! That's why I *love* shopping with my husband -- we have so much fun together! -- because he will NOT hold back. I'll hold something up, and say, "Am I crazy, or is this cute?" And if he thinks it's crazy, he'll tell me so. And if he thinks I look beautiful in something -- we HAVE to try it on, that's the rule -- he'll tell me that, too. LOVE. :)

  17. I love this outfit on you, the colors are great with the stripes too. Very Cute!

  18. Your butt looks fine! Though I do like the ensemble better without the jacket (though I do like the color of it).

I actually asked my boyfriend the other day whether I ever wore anything crazy that made him think "what is she wearing?!" and he said no. I'm still undecided as to how useful that is. My younger sister would be GREAT for straight-up outfit feedback, but she lives several states away.

    1. I agree about the colour of the jacket and I'm not sure about it with this dress. Love that your hubby thinks you are just fine!!

  19. I love the stripes with the teal jacket! And the yellow bow belt is so adorable. ;) I guess there are times when it would be nice to have honest, constructive feedback, but for the most part I am well aware when something isn't flattering. And to be honest, sometimes I just don't care. :) (I did a post about it recently called Comfy, Cozy & Content.) ;)

  20. I'm kind of like that. I really "tell it like it is". You're right though, it was a bit harsh. My sister is like that too.

  22. I really like that dress and the fact that you put the beautiful yellow with it! I am in a house full of males so sometimes they tell me what they don't or do like, but generally they will avoid getting in a situation where I may have hurt feelings.
